Millions of pilgrims, including over 100 000 foreigners, come here every year to pray at the miraculous Black Madonna Shrine. Historians date the famous painting to the 14th century. But a legend says it has been made by Saint Luke Evangelist on a piece of wood from the table used by Virgin Mary in Nazareth.

The building of The Museum the Family House of Karol Wojtyła is Pope’s birthplace. Museum includes former the Wojtyła flat and adjacent rooms. At the exhibition there are a few keepsakes from the equipment of the Wojtyła, there are also personal objects of Karol Wojtyła. Last room was open in 1999 there are photos from tree Pope’s pilgrimages to Wadowice. The Minor Basilica is strictly connected with Karol Wojtyła’s childhood and youth. There are two places especially close to the Pope: baptized font where was baptized and painting of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. John Paul II solemnly crowned the painting during His third pilgrimage to Wadowice on 16th June 1999. The structure of the Church of St. Peter the Apostle symbolizes John Paul II’s way from Wadowice via Wawel Cathedral to Vatican. The façade reminds of the copula of St. Peter Basilica in Roma.
